Kentucky United Methodists Respond to Devastation in Haiti

United Methodists have responded generously to the devastation brought to Haiti by an earthquake on January 12. Churches and individuals around the country have donated money and health kits to help the many people who lost everything in the disaster. As of February 24, the Kentucky Annual Conference had contributed $433,288.54 to the effort.   After the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Bishop Lindsey Davis had an idea of how to help the victims of the quake. When Hurricane Katrina hit the Louisiana and Mississippi coasts in 2005, the North Georgia Annual Conference (where Bishop Davis was the Episcopal leader at the time) ran ads in their local paper encouraging the people of that area to donate to relief efforts through UMCOR. Sulphur Well Collects Money, Health Kits for Haiti

Sulphur Well United Methodist Church (Columbia District) recently responded to the need in Haiti. A special offering of $500.00 was received one Sunday morning. The following Wednesday night the congregation assisted the youth in preparing personal care kits to be sent to UMCOR. A total of 104 kits were assembled.
