Treasurer's Notes

LOVE IS THE GREATEST GIFT

If I could speak in any language in heaven or on earth but didn’t love others, I would only be making meaningless noise like a loud gong or a clanging cymbal.

1 Corinthians 13: 1    NLT

See the January/February 2010 issue of the New World Outlook’s article” UMCOR in the 21st Century.”   It states since 1940, we have provided help and hope to people in very serious situations.

This earthquake in Haiti happened in the 70th year of UMCOR.  The Methodist Church of Haiti and UMCOR helped open the UMCOR Haiti field office in 2005.  UMW has been participating by doing what we can to show our love for others. Everyone is helping assemble Health Kits that soon will be collected and sent to Sagar-Brown.  These kits are needed for what seems to be the non-ending disasters in the world.   We have contributed through our churches and units, but additional funds are desperately needed.  Consider having a special fund raising event this year. Advance# 418325 is 100% for Haiti Emergency Relief

I have been especially touched by this disaster.  On November 10, 1980 on a Caribbean cruse, I spent a day in Cap Haitien, Haiti.  I took a tour to the San Souci Palace ruins; it was destroyed in an earth quake in 1842.  We saw the poor and desperate children all around us.  From the time of our docking; we threw coins to the divers, took taxis tours, donkey rides and shopped for beautiful crafts. We saw the severe poverty all around us.  My last picture in the album: shows the dock as we sailed away.  I labeled it “The end of a day where we learned to appreciate the U.S.A.     Today we know that truth all to well.

Welcome to all of the new UMW officers this year.  We have eight new district treasurers and I personally, want to thank you for saying yes to this commitment.  I am looking forward to this year.  We will all be getting to know each other, through email, telephone, facebook and training.  Again Thank YOU.

Thank you to all of districts and district treasurers.  We can report that our giving for 2009 was over a quarter million.
